McCarthy seals a move from Chiefs to Europe

Kaizer Chiefs promising young defender Aden McCarthy has left the Club after completing a transfer to Azerbaijan-based Sabah FK.

McCarthy has signed a three-year contract with the Azerbaijan side which will be competing at the UEFA Champions League next season.

The Azerbaijani Premier League Champions are said to have paid an amount in the region of R7 million excluding potential add-ons and with a future percentage resale clause.

The 22-year-old McCarthy enjoyed an impressive breakthrough season with Amakhosi, making 33 appearances across all competitions in his first full campaign with the senior team.

McCarthy found the back of the net twice in the recently concluded season, helping the Glamour Boys secure a third-place finish in the Betway Premiership and qualification for the CAF Confederation Cup.

He follows on from the likes of Siyabonga Ngezana and Yusuf Maart as the more recent exports of the club to make moves abroad, as they joined FCSB and SV Reid respectively over the past couple of season.

“We can confirm that we have agreed to release Aden after being approached by Sabah FK. We are proud that he will compete in the qualifying round of next season’s UEFA Champions League,” Kaizer Chiefs Sporting Director, Kaizer Motaung Jr said.

“We know Aden will fly the Amakhosi flag high in Europe, and we are excited to see him grow on the world stage.” Sporting Director, Concluded.
