Nabi hints at offloading youngsters before transfer deadline
Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has disclosed that Chiefs’ sporting director, Kaizer Motaung Jnr, is working on loaning out youngsters in order for them to get regular game time and gain more experience – before the transfer window shuts down on September 22.
The glamour boys went all out this transfer window to bolster their squad with the acquisitions of Khanyisa Mayo (on loan), Asanele Velebayi, Luke Baartman, Lebogang Maboe, Thabiso Monyane, Paseka Mako, Flavio Da Silva, Ethan Chislet, Nkanyisa Shinga, Sphesihle Ndlovu, and Etiosa Ighodaro as they aim to better their finish in the league after finishing on 9th spot last campaign and missing out on this year’s MTN8 tournament.
Chiefs went to part ways with the club’s captain, Yusuf Maart, after breaking the club’s 10-year drought of not winning silverware with his decisive goal that saw Amakhosi reign supreme in the Nedbank cup final in May 2025. Maart went to join Austrian Bundesliga side SV Ried for a fee of around R2.6 million.
Edson Castillo, Edmilson Dove, Ranga Chivaviro, Tebogo Potsane, Bongani Sam, Sabelo Radebe, and Mduduzi Mdatsane also parted ways with the Soweto giants, with Njabulo Blom returning to his parent club, St. Louis City, after his season-long loan deal back at Naturena.
“It’s true that the squad is big and the technical staff, management, the sporting director, Kaizer Junior, is working on options to try offload the squad, to give some players, who didn’t have consistency or time to get more game-time, to other teams,” Nasreddine Nabi said.
“Some [of our] young players need to get the experience needed for the PSL, at other clubs, everyone is aware of that and is aware of what will take place,” Nabi told journalists on Monday.
With Happy Mashiane, Donay Jansen, and Samkelo Zwane yet to feature for Amakhosi this season, it’s clearer that they are not part of Nabi’s plans, and they may be on their way out of the club on a season-long loan move to potential suitors in the Betway Premiership.
