George police seize unlicensed firearms and ammunition in residential estate raid
GEORGE, WESTERN CAPE – A 39-year-old male suspect is in police custody following a swift tactical operation that led to the seizure of unlicensed firearms and ammunition at a residential housing estate in George on Saturday night.
Members of the Garden Route Crime Combatting Team, operationalising intelligence alongside the George Crime Prevention Unit, conducted a targeted raid at approximately 22:45 on Saturday, 23 May. The team descended on a residence located near the N2 highway at the entrance to George from Wilderness after receiving information regarding illegal weapons on the property.
During a thorough search of the premises, police officers discovered weapons hidden inside a bedroom. The confiscated items include:
- One unlicensed pistol
- One gas pistol
- 29 rounds of 7.65 mm ammunition
The occupant of the house was arrested on-site after failing to produce a valid license for the firearm and ammunition. He faces formal charges of unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.
The suspect remains in custody and is scheduled to make his first appearance in the George Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 25 May.
