‘Bafana players make it difficult for Him’- Hugo Broos defends Lyle Foster
Bafana Bafana gaffer Hugo Broos has opened up on the lack of supply for his main striker Lyle Foster in the ongoing Total Energies African Cup of Nations 2025 in Morocco, where his side finished second in Group B with 6 Points after 2 victories and 1 loss in 3 Matches.
Foster, who missed the 2023 AFCON in Côte d’Ivoire due to being mentally unfit, has started this edition’s campaign on a red-hot form, registering 2 Goals and 2 Assists in the group stage phase, but has come under scrutiny from the Sou
“I think you need support as a striker; when there’s no support, it becomes difficult to do something alone. But when the movements around Lyle are good, then he can take advantage of that. He’s a very good striker; he’s strong and quick,” Broos said.
“You can use him very well, and he scores. At the beginning of the game [against Zimbabwe], we were good, but we started to be bad; it was then difficult for Lyle.
“[In the] second half, there was movement around him; he took advantage of that because he’s smart and knows where he has to be; he scored. We have to do that more in the next games and be better in terms of passing, focus, and concentration,” he added.
“We can have good ball circulation and good movement using the space that the opponents give. And then we have a very good striker in Lyle.” Broos told journalists in Marrakech after securing a 3-2 victory against Zimbabwe.
Bafana Bafana are now set to face either Côte d’Ivoire or Cameroon in the Round of 16 on Monday, 04 January at Agdal Medina stadium in Rabat at 21h00 (SA Time) live on SuperSport PSL channel 202 and SABC 2.
