Cape Town Metro Police Seize R130,000 in Mandrax and Ammunition During Bellville Raid
CAPE TOWN — A vigilant police dog has helped Cape Town Metro Police take more than R130,000 worth of illegal narcotics off the streets following a successful raid in Bellville.
Officers descended on a property at the Tienie Meyer Bypass informal settlement after receiving an anonymous tip-off that the premises were being used to store illicit substances. Upon arrival, the occupant granted law enforcement permission to conduct a search.
Metro Police spokesperson Ruth Solomons confirmed that the operation initially yielded very little, with officers uncovering just four mandrax tablets. However, the tide turned when handlers brought in a specialized K9 unit to conduct a thorough sweep of the home.
“It wasn’t long before K9 Bunny led their handler to a black bag hidden behind a cupboard,” Solomons stated.
Inside the hidden bag, police discovered the bulk of the high-value drug cache. In addition to the mandrax tablets, officers confiscated 14 rounds of live ammunition, a stolen cellphone, and over R5,000 in cash.
The suspect was arrested on the scene and faces multiple charges, including possession of drugs, illegal possession of ammunition, and possession of suspected stolen property.
