Khanyisa Mayo has opens up on why he opted to join Kaizer chiefs and what it means for him to play for his Boyhood club
Mayo was welcomed by the club’s sporting director Kaizer Motaung jnr at the club’s headquarters in Naturena on Friday to put pen to paper for his season-long loan move from Algerian side CR Belouizdad.
The 27-year-old striker could not hide his excitement on his move to join his father’s former club and was in full praise of Amakhosi’s prestige “the biggest team in the country”. Mayo said on the club’s media.
“It is a dream come true. The only team I would come back for is Kaizer Chiefs. The Club has a great history,” the new signing said.
“My father (Patrick Mayo) is part of that great history, so I wanted to play for the biggest team in the country, in Africa, in the world, I can say, because Kaizer Chiefs is the biggest team in the world to me.”
Former Kaizer Chiefs star Patrick Mayo has advised his son Khanyisa to put in the extra work after he completed his season-long loan move to the Soweto giants.
“He needs to familiarise himself with things like extra training. Arriving early at training to practise set pieces will help him settle more quickly… Nothing beats hard work. If the boy works hard, he will achieve everything he wants to achieve with Chiefs,” he said.
“I think he will have a good season at Chiefs because he is more focused now.” The Senior Mayo told IOL.
