History-Making Buccuneers clinch their fourth succussive MTN8 tittle
Orlando Pirates etched their name in the History books of South African football as they defeated Stellenbosch FC 3-0 to clinch their record-extending forth successive MTN8 cup under the lights of Mbombela Stadium on Saturday.
The MTN8 final was tightly contested as we headed to the first half break at level pegging with Stellies goalkeeper Sage Stevens been the hero of the first half after making great stops to keep the buccaneers at bay. The was not much to report into in the first stanza of the game except from Thalente Mbath’s long range effort and Sipho Mbule’s shot that was turned to a conner kick by Thabo Moloisane on the 23rd minute.
No team was able to open the scoring in the second half either, that saw the game head to extra time in search of a winner.
After 90 minutes of football, Tshepang Moremi opened the scoring on the 92nd minute from a delightful ball from Oswin Appollis before turning into a provider on the 103rd minute to laid it to Tshegofatso Mabasa who needed no second invitation as he doubled the buccaneers lead before the extra-time stoppage.
The Buccaners Maintained pressure in the second stanza of the extra time as Tshepang Moremi once again to find the back of the net to put the game into bed and seal the victory for his boyhood club.as Abdeslam Ouddou’s side becomes the first side to defend the trophy for third straight year.
