LIMPOPO GOVERNMENT TO CELEBRATE HERITAGE DAY 2025 IN ROYAL KINGDOM TJATE III, SEKHUKHUNE.

The Limpopo Provincial Government will join the rest of South Africa in celebrating Heritage Day on 24 September 2025 in Royal Kingdom Tjate III, Mohlaletse, Fetakgomo-Tubatse Municipality in Sekhukhune.

The celebrations will be held under the theme:“Reimagine our Heritage Institutions for a New Era.” The theme emphasises the importance of leveraging heritage as a foundation for building a dynamic, socially responsive, technologically innovative and economically inclusive future.

This year’s celebration focuses on museums as they are custodians of memory and knowledge and are uniquely positioned to lead this shift.
Heritage Day is a moment of reflection and celebration, reminding all citizens of the importance of preserving, promoting and reimagining heritage in ways that resonate with present and future generations. This year’s theme calls for bold thinking about the role of museums, archives, cultural centres, and heritage sites in shaping a modern, inclusive, and united society.

Premier of Limpopo, Dr Phophi Ramathuba emphasised the province’s commitment to heritage development. “Our heritage institutions are not relics of the past, but they are living spaces that must speak to the realities of today and the aspirations of tomorrow. As Limpopo, we are proud to contribute to reimagining these institutions so that they reflect our diverse identities, celebrate innovation and remain relevant to the youth and generations to come” said Premier Ramathuba.

The Provincial Government calls on all residents to wear their traditional attire and actively participate in activities that honour the provinces’ diverse cultures, while reimagining how heritage institutions can inspire new ways of learning, storytelling, and nation-building.

The celebration is scheduled as follows:
Date: Wednesday, 24 September 2025
Venue : Royal Kingdom Tjate III, Mohlaletse village, Fetakgomo Tubatse Municipality, Sekhukhune District
