‘I’m sorry to Pirates, but Mbokazi has to leave. He will become better [in Europe] – Hugo Broos
Bafana Bafana Coach Hugo Broos continues to echo his stance that Orlando Pirates’ starlet Mbekezeli Mbokazi has to leave the country for greener pastures in the European corridors.
The 73-year-old Belgian renowned coach, has been vocal in the past few months about the future of the 20-year-old defender, urging him to secure a European Move next year for the betterment of his football career.
With the 2026 World Cup on the cards, N’wereti News understands that unnamed English and Belgian clubs are circling for the signature of the highly rated young stalwart.
“If you see the quality and the talent of Mbokazi, I’m very sorry to [Orlando] Pirates, but this guy has to go away next year. He will become better when he plays good competition and at a higher level,” Broos said when he unveiled his final Bafana squad for the upcoming qualifiers.
“If he stays here, it will become too easy for him because he’s good. He needs another motivation, another challenge. That makes him become better. There are other players who can make the move abroad,” he added.
Mbokazi is part of Hugo Broos’ 23-man final squad for the Crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers final two matches against Zimbabwe on 10 October at Moses Mabhida Stadium at 18h00.
Bafana Bafana will then host Rwanda on the 14th of October at the Mbombela stadium as they hope to secure their ticket for next year’s Crown jewel of football in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
