Chiefs receive major boost ahead of Zamalek showdown

Kaizer Chiefs travelled to Polokwane on Thursday to prepare for their crucial Total Energies CAF Confederation Cup clash against five-time African champions Zamalek on Saturday at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium at 15:00.

The highly anticipated clash of Group D sees Amakhosi desperate to get the maximum three points as they suffered a 2-1 defeat in their opening group stage match against Al Masry on Sunday, 23 November at the Suez stadium away in Egypt.

Glody Makabi Lilepo was a notable absentee in Chiefs’ matchday-2 training session at the New Peter Mokaba alongside defender Aden McCarthy as they remain sidelined for this crucial tie due to their injury setbacks. The duo was also sidelined for the Group stage opener against Al Masry.

However, Amakhosi has received a significant boost with the availability of Gaston Sirino, who returns after serving his one-match suspension. Bafana Bafana international Khanyisa Mayo is also back from his hamstring injury setback, as he took part in yesterday’s matchday-2 training session at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Nkanyiso Shinga, who is yet to make his official debut for Amakhosi since his arrival at the club in the offseason from Portugal, was also part of the preparations and could be on the line to make his debut on Saturday against Zamalek with Aden McCarthy still out injured.
