‘The officials of some teams visit the referees on the morning of their matches’ -Miguel Cardoso
Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso has made shocking revelations alleging that club officials of some teams visit match officials on the morning of their games and he has called for the implementation of Video Assistant Referee (VAR) in the PSL to improve integrity in officiating.
The 53-year-old tactician made these shocking revelations after masterminding a hard-fought 2-1 victory against Motsepe Foundation Championship side Gomora United at Loftus Versfeld stadium to become the first side to advance to the last -16 of the 2026 Nedbank Cup on Wednesday.
“When we start to have VAR on the matches, things will go better because there will be no suspicion of anyone,” Cardoso said during a heated press conference.
“Here in South Africa, it’s becomes interesting that the officials from some teams visit the referees on the morning of the matches,” he added in the heated press conference last night.
“Do you know that? Look for that because i saw a photo today, and It’s important that we look for these.
“I never saw this; it’s the first time I’ve seen officials from one team visiting the referees for their game on the night, and that happened recently, very recently, maybe yesterday, and that’s what you need to worry about in terms of football.”
