TWO SUSPECTED ARMED ROBBERS KILLED IN SYDENHAM POLICE SHOOTOUT
SYDENHAM – Two suspected armed robbers were shot and fatally wounded during a shootout with the South African Police Service (SAPS) on Thursday afternoon, 14 May. A third accomplice was arrested at the scene.
Police officers were patrolling along Burnwood Road when they witnessed an armed robbery in progress. Three suspects, travelling in a white Kia sedan, were actively robbing a pedestrian of his belongings. When the suspects realized that law enforcement was reacting to the crime, they sped away from the scene.
Two of the suspects were fatally shot during the exchange of gunfire. The third suspect was cornered and arrested. He faces charges of armed robbery and attempted murder of police officers.No police officers or bystanders were injured during the shootout.
