CAPE TOWN — Emergency relief teams have commenced extensive mop-up operations across Western Cape communities devastated by recent destructive storms, with operations actively focusing on basic resource distribution.

The severe weather, characterized by torrential downpours and high-velocity winds, claimed 11 lives and caused widespread structural damage across multiple regions.

 Several communities remain entirely isolated due to the resulting debris and infrastructural collapse.

 Provincial Disaster Management head Colin Deiner confirmed that current emergency interventions are prioritizing food drop-offs and the restoration of running water, particularly to cut-off residents within the Breede Valley, Drakenstein Municipality, and the Garden Route district
