Homes in Zeerust flooded yet again due to inadequate drainage
Heavy rains have once again flooded numerous homes in Khunotswane village near Zeerust, North West, more than a year after the community’s drainage crisis first began.
Local residents report that they continue to endure constant flood conditions despite prior government promises to repair the area’s inadequate stormwater system.
Community member Gaborone Mbele noted that while provincial officials initially distributed food aid and deployed disaster management and surveying teams, the government has provided no feedback or permanent solutions since then. The recurring deluge has left displaced residents increasingly vulnerable and desperate for a lasting infrastructure intervention.
