PREMIER RAMATHUBA VISITS INJURED LEARNERS FOLLOWING FATAL SEKHUKHUNE SCHOLAR TRANSPORT ACCIDENT
JANE FURSE – Limpopo Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba and MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Violet Mathye, arrived at Jane Furse Hospital today, Friday 15 May 2026, to visit the young survivors of a horrific scholar transport tragedy.
The high-level government visit follows an incident on Wednesday, 13 May 2026, when a Toyota Quantum carrying pupils from Mannyetha Primary School struck a rock and spun out of control on road D4246 between Ga-Nkoana and Apel Cross. The vehicle subsequently burst into flames, killing two Grade R learners and injuring five others.
The five injured learners remain under medical care at Jane Furse Hospital, where doctors are monitoring their recovery. Meanwhile, the arrested driver remains in police custody and is scheduled to make his initial appearance before the Nebo Magistrate’s Court today.
