Amstel Arena set to host Bafana World Cup preparatory friendly against Nicaragua

South Africa Football Association has announced that Bafana Bafana will host Central America side Nicaragua National team in an international friendly match, 13 days prior the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The preparatory friendly encounter will be played on May 29 at Orlando Amstel Arena with kick-off set for 18:00 PM in a cold Johannesburg night as Hugo Broos look to fine tune his side before the opening match against Mexico on June 11.

Bafana Bafana Coach Hugo Broos is expected to announce his 26-men squad for the Global showpiece on the 27th of May at Union Buildings.

South Africa’s head of the state President Cyril Ramaphosa set to be part of the Bafana Bafana squad announcement for the World Cup in the country’s capital.

Nicaragua men’s national team are one of the lowest ranked side by FIFA , as they are currently ranked 131st in the world while their opposition South Africa are currently ranked 60th in the world, heading to this year’s Global showpiece.

Bafana Bafana are drawn in Group A in their World Cup group alongside the hosts Mexico, South Korea and Czech Republic. The Belgian mentor will be looking to spearhead South Africa to the knockout stage of the World Cup for the first time in the country’s football history.

South Africa are no strangers to the World Cup having participated in the 1998 and 2002 editions and then later hosted the 2010 World Cup, and this will be their fourth turnout in the World’s prestigious football competition.

This year’s Global showpiece will be co-hosted by three countries namely the United States of America, Canada and Mexico from June 11 to 19 July 2026. All 104 matches will be beamed live at SuperSport TV.
